Supervised Visitation Awareness month December, 2019

News Release

Brantford December, 2019 –

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) has awarded a grant for $38,200 to Dalhousie Place – Brantford & District Supervised Access Centre over 12 months to conduct research to develop a child focused – trauma informed coaching model for supervised access. Supporting the positive development of children and youth, this initiative is helping parents, caregivers and adult allies have the skills to support children and youth who are facing barriers.

According to Executive Director Valya Roberts  “we expect to learn from this project what existing resources and current research support a model that will best suit the type of service for Supervised Access.  The model will be child focused, goal oriented while still being trauma informed taking into account the life situation of the adult participants.  We will also engage the community in our project to encourage acceptance for a new type of Supervised Access program for families that is not in a group setting but one on one using a coaching’ model.  Ms. Roberts identified  that “the current Ministry funded group setting is an excellent program but we would like to explore if we can meet the needs of children in a one on one setting with a staff who will be able to intervene and ‘coach’ the parents.”  Adults who are interested in providing input to this project are encouraged to email Ms. Roberts at bdsupacc@execulink.com

Since 1991 the Brantford and District Supervised Access Centre (Dalhousie Place) has offered safe, neutral, child-focused services including supervised visits, exchanges and support for families. The vision is to provide a safe, conflict-free visiting environment for children and their families while promoting healthier family relationships. Respect, fairness and compassion are essential as we interact with one another and our clients. Partnerships enhance our ability to serve families, enhance lives and maximize resources.
